The use of graphene for dental polymethylmethacrylate reinforcement – A systematic review

Objectives: To produce a systematic review regarding the effect of graphene-reinforced polymethylmethacrylate used in dentistry on mechanical properties. Methods: Electronic databases (Pubmed/MEDLINE, Web Science, Embase) were independently searched by two researchers for relevant studies published up to December 2021. An additional manual search was performed identify publications. The population, intervention, comparison, and outcome (PICO) question “In dentistry, does offer better properties than conventional polymethylmethacrylate?”. selection articles carried out according established inclusion exclusion criteria, following PRISMA flowchart. inter-investigator reliability assessed Cohen’s Kappa coefficient. risk bias using Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist Quasi-experimental Studies. Results: Six vitro included qualitative analysis. A total 247 specimens evaluated: 81 made non-reinforced PMMA resin 166 reinforced with graphene. evaluated flexural strength, modulus, hardness, biaxial impact strength. These seem improve addition graphene certain concentrations. analysis showed low risk. Conclusions: Within limitation this study, seems strengthen some dental resin. However, more are needed understand ideal concentration resin’s clinical performance.
